Apply for the George Ryga Society's Artist in Residence Program
The Centre is in the beautifully preserved Heritage Home of the internationally recognized author and writer, George Ryga. It has evolved through the efforts of the George Ryga Centre Society to advance and facilitate social, humanitarian, artistic, and cultural awareness.
An important function of the Centre is to provide a creative environment for writers and artists who wish to retreat where they can work independently, free from distractions.
General Information:
The centre is 15 minutes from Penticton, 45 minutes from Kelowna, and 5 hours from Vancouver. Both Penticton and Kelowna have airports with daily connections to Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Post Office, banks, complete shopping facilities and Aquatic Centre are in downtown Summerland, within five minutes from the Centre.
The residence has six comfortable bedrooms, two full baths, laundry facilities, fully-equipped kitchen and dining area. Adjoining the dining area is a spacious living room for performance evenings, or artists’ events, and opening out to an enclosure and terraced garden overlooking Okanagan Lake.
The Centre is smoke-free, and smoking is in designated areas only. Participants are expected to adapt their special needs to the ambience of the Centre which may or may not include other activities and functions. A resident caretaker will deal with any needs that may arise during your stay.

3 – 6 Months: $500 per month

Applications must be complete and include the following:
· Ten type written page of manuscript, or visual artists may submit slides in plastic pocket sheets, with a brief resume.
1 week: $180
Overnight rates by advance registration are also available.

· A description of the proposed project to be undertaken at the Centre, and names of two references familiar with your work.
· Home phone number, and preferred dates for length of stay.
· A cheque made payable to the George Ryga Centre Society for 1/3 of the full amount of the requested stay. Refunds must be requested one month prior to the start of the residency date.
· Applications will be accepted every March 1st and September 1st, and accepted applicants will be notified as soon as possible.
